Use of Simulation in the Classroom

These monthly sessions are aimed at providing faculty with knowledge about all aspects of educational simulation implementation. Faculty will provide an overview of an actual simulation implemented in the UTHSC Sim Center, discuss best practices in simulation education and provide simulation resources for faculty. By attending these sessions, Faculty participants will be able to 1) identify best practices in simulation pedagogy; 2) acquire knowledge of current UTHSC sim activities and 3) network with colleagues for potential inter-professional simulation activities.
Lunch will be provided.

Dr. Chasity Shelton graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2000 and received her Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree with High Honors from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in 2005 where she was the recipient of the Roche Pharmacy Communications Award, the APhA-ASP Outstanding Local Chapter Graduating Student Award, and named in the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. She completed residency training in Pediatric Pharmacotherapy and Academia at Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center from 2005 to 2007. Dr. Shelton is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pharmacy at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee. She is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) and also a Board Certified Pediatric Pharmacy Specialist (BCPPS). Dr. Shelton trains pharmacy students and residents at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital where she practices as a Pediatric Infectious Disease Clinical Pharmacy Specialist. Her research interests are in the area of pediatric infectious disease, antimicrobial stewardship, and simulation in pharmacy education, specifically using standardized patients. Dr. Shelton participates on various committees at both the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital and has published 13 papers in peer-reviewed journals, 6 book chapters, and 26 scientific abstracts.
