TurningPoint Cloud Upgrade

To all Current and Potential Users of TurningPoint Technologies (clicker technology).

Action is required.

During the week of June 27th to July 1st, UTHSC podia was updated to TurningPoint Cloud. Information Technology Systems (ITS) also replaced receivers and updated the podium computers with Windows 10 and Microsoft Office 2016.

Faculty and Students must be ready to use TurningPoint Cloud prior to the first day of class.  The Teaching & Learning Center (TLC) will provide training, tutorials, an up-to-date website, ongoing communication and support in the use of TurningPoint Cloud.

How will the TurningPoint Cloud update impact students?

  • Students can continue to use or purchase the current campus clicker (RFLCD device) and license to respond to multiple choice questions.
  • All students must register for a Turning Account using a license. Most of the cost will be rebated by Turning Technologies.
  • If faculty choose to use other question types, students can use web enabled devices.

How will the TurningPoint Cloud update impact faculty?

  • Existing TP5 PowerPoint presentations will convert for use, once the PowerPoint is opened in TurningPoint Cloud.
  • Faculty must register for a Turning Account prior to class.
  • The established/ existing method for use of the TurningPoint clickers and remote polling will remain the same for deployment of the multiple choice question type.
  • Faculty may choose to deploy other question types using the new features in ResponseWare.
  • Faculty can choose how to use TurningPoint Cloud in the classroom, with the clicker device (multiple choice questions only) or with web-enabled devices (multiple choice questions and more).

What is ResponseWare?

  • ResponseWare is the new feature-functionality.
    • A variety of question types can be deployed to facilitate the learning and student engagement in the class or teams (e.g. multiple choice, multiple response, numeric response, true/false, short answer).
    • When an instructor chooses to use ResponseWare, students can view numerous question types and respond with any web-enabled device (e.g. smart phone, tablet, computer).

What must students do prior to the start of class?

  • New students must purchase a clicker device which includes a license (aka Bundle).
  • Existing students can use their current clicker and must purchase a license.
  • All students must create a Turning Account.

What must faculty do prior to the start of class?

  • Create a Turning Account.
  • For faculty who are using TurningPoint with your desktop or laptop, uninstall TurningPoint5, and then install TurningPoint Cloud.
  • An automated file conversion will run when opening your TurningPoint 5 PowerPoint presentation in TurningPoint Cloud. To avoid any delay in your class, start time, we recommend that you convert and save presentation files on a USB prior to entering the classroom.
